Dear Edmonson School Family,

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  The New Year is an excellent time to focus on Leader in Me Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind.  This habit is about knowing where you want to end up and setting goals that help get you where you want to go.  We are working with students on setting personal and academic goals for the New Year.  Please ask your student about the goals that he/she set. It is also a good idea to set a parenting goal to assist your student with his/her academic success.  Think about what is most important for you and your child to work on together and set a goal.  For instance, you make set a goal of reading to your student for 20 minutes each night, getting homework done and turned in on time every day, or you may recognize that tardiness is an issue and set a goal of being on time every day. Discuss the goal that you set as a parent and the goal your student has from him/herself daily.

Reminder January 26th is a half day of school.  Dismissal is at 11:40 a.m.

End of the 1st Semester/Report Cards

The end of our first semester will be on Friday, January 26th. Our students had Art Class with Mrs. McClellan as one of their specials classes during the first semester. Starting the week of January 29th your child will begin having World Culture Class with Mrs. Witkowski as one of their specials classes.  The students have enjoyed having Art Class and we are looking forward to having World Culture Class for the second semester.

The 2nd card marking report cards will be made available to you on February 2nd after 9 AM. Please login online to view your child’s report card. Thank you for supporting your child’s academic progress!

Winter Reminders/School Hours

Please remember to continue to dress your child appropriately for the winter weather. They should come to school with boots, hats, gloves, snow pants, and winter jackets. The students do go outside for recess unless the temperature is below 20 degrees or 10 degrees or less with the wind chill factor. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe and warm.

Flu and Cold Season

Flu and cold season is in full swing.  This year's flu is especially bad. Themaintenance staff is taking extra precautions to ensure that the high traffic areas of our building are disinfected each night.  However, the biggest difference we can make to ensure that illness does not spread is hand washing.  Please talk to you student about washing their hands and using hand sanitizer several times through out the day.  There are several hand sanitizing stations through out the building and each classroom has hand sanitizer available. Additionally, please keep your student home if he/she is sick. Your child cannot return to school until he/she has been fever free for 24 hours.

Parking Lot/Traffic Safety Reminders

There are several issues with parking here at Edmonson.  We have a very small parking lot which makes drop-offs and pick-ups difficult but safety must be our first priority.  A couple of reminders:

  • There is no parking or standing in the bus loading zone in the front of the school.
  • The driveway on the east end of the school is NOT a drop off or pick up zone.
  • There is no parking at the back end of the school by the playground.  That parking lot is reserved for the preschool, latchkey, and the EI program who receive and dismiss students from that entrance.  Please do not park there as space is limited.
  • Please do not park in the handicapped parking spaces unless you have a handicapped permit.  We do have a few families who rely on these spots.
  • Please do not park in the Watchdog parking spot unless you are a Watchdog.

We need to work together to keep our students our safe.  Please follow these simple rules. If you are having someone else pick up or drop off, please share these rules with him/her.
